John Slack, who spearheaded a pro-life initiative drive in Idaho in the 1990s, died Saturday from complications with the H1N1 flu virus, said long-time family friend Dennis Mansfield.
Slack, who was in his mid-40s, led Idahoans for Compassion and was political director of the Idaho Citizens Alliance. He and his wife, Terri Slack, have four children.
John Slack was working as a public school teacher and football coach, Mansfield said.
“He was a big bear of a man,” Mansfield said. But “even his opponents saw tenderness in his approach” as an activist.
