Central Elementary School will mark eight decades of dedication to education with an open house from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The school, at 1415 5th St. S. in Nampa, first opened as a junior high in 1929 and was later converted to an elementary school. In 1995, Central closed for a year for a complete remodeling and upgrades, then reopened as a K-5 elementary.

Last year, Central received the national Distinguished School award and the Idaho State Board of Education Exceptional Growth Award.
