Ravenous Travel Channel host Adam Richman is taping in Boise this week for an episode of the reality series “Man v. Food.”
The show is slated to feature Rockies Diner, Big Juds and Flying Pie Pizzeria, according to a Travel Channel publicist. The episode is scheduled to air Oct. 14.
On the show, Richman visits restaurants to get a taste for the area’s unique cuisine — and, as the Travel Channel puts it, to do some "serious indulging." The grand finale of each show is an eating challenge: For example, a 72-ounce steak or a pile of painfully spicy hot wings.
On Tuesday, Richman successfully conquered the “Rockies Challenge” (with a little help; see Michael Deeds' column Friday in Scene): one hour to eat a Johnny B. Goode, which is a 9-inch roll with three 1/3-pound patties, bacon, pastrami, four slices of cheese, mayo, lettuce, onion, pickles, tomato, chili, and a hot dog, plus an order of chili cheese fries and a 16-ounce shake.
The Johnny B. Goode weighs approximately five pounds. It costs $14.99 if you don't finish it within the allotted time. If you do, you win a free T-shirt and a guitar.
“Man v. Food” is the latest cable food show to visit Boise. The Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” currently is airing episodes filmed earlier this year.
