Capital's Kyle Sosnowski (4) catches an interception against Meridian at Bronco Stadium on Friday night.

Kyle Sosnowski considered leaving the Treasure Valley to attend college and continue his football career.

In the end, however, the Capital High tight end opted for the hometown Broncos, like several former Capital stars.

"There was some desire (to leave the state), but after talking to the coaches and being around Boise State and being a hometown kid, I thought it was a good decision," Sosnowski told the Idaho Statesman on Wednesday night, hours after committing to the Broncos.

Sosnowski, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior-to-be, is the fifth player from Capital to currently earn a scholarship from Boise State, joining Jarrell Root, Kyle Efaw, Geraldo Hiwat and Bryant Thomas.

"We love it when our guys go down there. We know he's going to be treated right," Capital coach Todd Simis said.

Sosnowski, who played primarily free safety in high school, said he was surprised that BSU recruited him as a tight end, but is eager to play wherever "I fit best in their offense," he said.

Sosnowski had offers from Idaho and Idaho State and was attracting interest from Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, BYU, Arizona and Arizona State, he said. Boise State offered June 27 after he attended the Broncos' camp.

"I made the decision because I really liked the coaches there," Sosnowski said. "I like the chemistry, even as a young team."
