Todd McGillivray with Allied Waste Services demonstrates the new Curb it program Thursday during an unveiling at Boise City Hall.

The city of Boise and Allied Waste on Thursday unveiled their new automated, no-sort campaign designed to help more Boiseans recycle and reduce the air and noise pollution associated with trash collection.

"It's not just curbside recycling," Mayor Dave Bieter said. "But curbing the amount of waste we send to the landfill."

All households will receive the standard 95-gallon cart, unless a smaller size is ordered. Orders are taken at www.curbitboise.org or by calling 208-327-8404 until May 22. Carts are gray for trash, blue for recycling. New carts will be delivered across the city from June 22 until Sept. 4.

What's Changing:

• All trash must be placed inside a city-issued cart with the lid shut.

• Bags of trash left at the curb will not be accepted.

• Yard waste must go in the trash cart or be composted at home.

• Old trash cans may be used if you put Overflow Stickers on them.

• Residents will get five free Overflow Stickers each year.

Recycling:

• No need to separate recyclables, just throw them in the cart. Still no glass.

• Recycling will get picked up on your trash day every other week.

New trucks:

• Have mechanical arms that lift carts and empty them into the truck.

• Run on compressed natural gas, which makes them quieter and less polluting than diesel trucks.

Compost

• Backyard composters will be delivered to residents who purchase a temporarily discounted composting bin from CurbitBoise.org.

There is no rate increase for residents who recycle. Residents who do not recycle will pay $4 more. Residents may order up to two additional 95-gallon carts for $3 a month.

Large-item pickup, Christmas tree pickup and leaf collection programs will not change.
