The number of Idahoans uninsured during that time was 421,000, or 32.3 percent of the population, according to to a study released Tuesday by the health advocacy group Families USA.
Nearly three-quarters, or 72.9 percent, lacked coverage for six months or more during this time.
A total of 84.5 percent of the uninsured were members of working families. The remaining 15.5 percent of uninsured Idahoans who were not working were either actively searching for employment or were not in the labor force because they were disabled, chronically ill, family caregivers, or not looking for employment for other reasons.
In March 2009, Families USA released a new report, "Americans at Risk: One in Three Uninsured," which it said is designed to provide a comprehensive picture of uninsured Americans. That report contains national data, as well as a detailed discussion of the methodology. Read it at www.familiesusa.org.
