This is a popular camping area on C.J. Strike Reservoir, which offers good early and late-season camping, but gets pretty hot in the summer. The campground is thoughtfully designed to give everyone access to the reservoir or a good view of it. Cabanas at the campsites provide shade and wind blocks. There are picnic tables inside each so you can escape the elements when you're eating or cooking. There also are 15 picnic sites with cabanas, and a group shelter that can accommodate about 50 to 60 people.

How to get there: Take I-84 to Mountain Home and go south to Grandview or Bruneau. Take Idaho 78 to the turn off to Cove Recreation Site.

Activities: Boating and fishing.

Amenities: There are 36 campsites with gravel pads, cabanas, fire rings, community water spigots, outhouses, garbage service, boat ramp and docks, and an RV dumpsite.

Nearest places to get supplies: Bruneau or Grandview.

Fees/reservations: $5 per night for tent campers and $12 for RVs. Camping is strictly first-come, first-served.

Information: Call 384-3300, or log on to www.birdsofprey.blm.gov/recreation/cove.htm.
