Duck Valley Indian Reservation

Published: February 27, 2008

What's there: Trout.

Description: The reservation has three reservoirs: Sheep Creek, Mountain View and Lake Billie Shaw. Sheep Creek and Mountain View are managed for catch-and-keep fishing, and Billie Shaw is a trophy lake where anglers are limited to keeping one fish per day. A tribal fishing license is required on all three lakes.

Billie Shaw has become a favorite trophy-trout lake for fly anglers, and double-digit catches of large, hard-fighting rainbow trout are common from April through June.

Bait anglers have caught trout up to 8 pounds at Mountain View.

Getting there: Take I-84 east to Mountain Home and then Idaho 51 to the reservation, which straddles the Idaho/Nevada state line.

Drive time: About three hours.
