The Boise River literally gets truckloads of steelhead to go with its trout and whitefish. Catching a 5- to 8-pound steelhead in the middle of Idaho's largest city is pretty cool.

Another option: The Upper Salmon River near the towns of Salmon and Challis can have excellent steelhead fishing in late October and early November.
