Idahoans, give thanks for state's splendors

November 19, 2006

It started with a simple conversation about how to cover the intense effort of "Good Morning America" to identify the Seven New Wonders of the World.

Why not the Seven Wonders of Idaho? We all love to boast about the many splendors of Idaho, whether we are newcomers or natives.

So we scrambled. We teamed up with Today's 6 and promptly solicited readers for ideas. We identified people to be our panel of seven experts and quickly assembled a stellar group.

Then, the last step, taken in the midst of a busy election: We asked reporters, photographers, editors and designers— even a poet — to drop everything the next week to travel to all corners of the state to tell the story of the Seven Wonders of Idaho as selected by our panel. And we swore everyone to secrecy.

From concept to publication, it was a short 17 days and an incredible effort by a very talented staff.

No one complained about the extra work or the rush. What a treat to help our readers celebrate the state we've all decided to make our home.

We hope you enjoy our efforts over the next seven days as much as we did. And let's all give thanks for living in such a wonderful state.
