A 41-year-old Nampa man who until June faced a possible death penalty in connection with his infant son's death was sentenced Thursday to nine years for manslaughter but must serve at least three.
Prosecutors reduced the charge against Jose Lopez Meza in June because portions of the long police interview with Spanish-speaking Meza were mistranslated, and they recently received medical evidence indicated the baby had a medical condition that could have caused him to stop breathing.
Meza admitted to shaking his 3-week-old son, Isac, and throwing him on the bed June 17, 2007, but said he shook the boy because he was trying to revive him.
