There was a five-point stretch Thursday night when the Eagle High volleyball team looked vulnerable.

It was, however, just a moment.

The two-time defending state champion Mustangs regrouped after a timeout in the third set to notch their 19th consecutive sweep of an Idaho team this season with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-19 victory against Rocky Mountain.

"Sometimes we have to go to a timeout just to refresh our minds and go back in and go for it," said junior middle blocker Morgan Odale, who led the Mustangs with 20 kills, five aces and five blocks.

After losing the first two games of the match, Rocky Mountain (10-5-1, 6-2 5A Southern Idaho Conference) took a 5-0 lead to start the third game, forcing Eagle coach Paul Schwager to call a timeout.

But the Grizzlies didn't relinquish the lead until the Mustangs (19-5, 8-0) broke a 15-15 tie with a Liz Daylong kill.

"If we can dig and pass on serve-receive, we can be a good team," Rocky Mountain coach Michelle Dodds said. "That's what we did in the third game."

Both teams have two regular-season matches remaining before the 5A District Three Tournament begins Oct. 20. Eagle closes out the regular season next week with home matches against Timberline and Vallivue. Rocky Mountain has matches left against Mountain View and Meridian.

The Mustangs can earn the regular-season championship and the top seed in the district tournament by winning out. The Grizzlies have to sweep their final two matches and hope for two losses by Eagle and Centennial in order to claim the title.

"Our attitude is all or nothing," Odale said. "We are pushing to win districts and we're also really wanting to go to state."
