• Boise sculptor Francis Fox opened his first solo show in three years on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Visual Arts Collective in Garden City. The work shows a shift in Fox's work as he began experimenting with 3-D computer imagery.

His mixed-media sculpture, inspired by biological forms, is worth seeing, but the talk of the night was that Fox's brother, actor Matthew, dropped by to celebrate the show.

The "Lost" star enjoyed not being mobbed in public. The artists and Boise State folks were too sophisticated for that. Still there was a definite buzz in the room.

• Friends of Danny Peterson, who died in July, have been searching for a way to honor the Boise State University graduate and one of the area's best-loved actors. They named a theater after him.

BSU prof Gordon Reinhart came up with the idea to name Morrison Center Stage II the Danny Peterson Theatre. Theater department chair Richard Klautsch got it moving, BSU president Bob Kustra gave his blessing, Mike Hoffman called Velma Morrison from London where he's working on his latest film "The Last Station" and, voila, it was done.

At an emotional dedication on Thursday, Oct. 2, Kustra said that the university was "committed to keep the memory of Danny Peterson alive and to honor a man who learned his craft in this community and chose to stay here and give back."
