Running backs Drew McConnell and Dillan Lukehart each scored a pair of touchdowns and Eagle High's defense did the rest as the Mustangs remained unbeaten with a 32-13 home victory against Boise on a chilly Friday night.

"We just went out and played football," Eagle coach Paul Peterson said. "It was very vanilla. We didn't do a whole lot, but we've got good players and I believe in my players. They just want to play football."

The Mustangs improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in 5A Southern Idaho Conference Division 1 as they snapped Boise's winning streak at four games. The Braves dipped to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the division.

"Our kids battled against a very good team tonight, and I really thought we were in it until the very end," Boise coach Bob Clark said. "This stings a little bit. They don't like the taste of this, but they'll bounce back."

Eagle finished with 255 rushing yards and its defense only allowed one TD. Boise scored its first TD on a 40-yard interception return by defensive back John DiLulo, and the Braves' offense didn't find the end zone until quarterback Steven Laurino connected with receiver Wil Coman on a 10-yard scoring pass with 16 seconds remaining in the game.

Peterson credited his offensive and defensive lines for the win.

"I really challenged our team to match the physical intensity in the interior with Boise," he said. "I thought for the most part we matched up pretty good in the trenches with those guys. Our running game was nothing fancy. It was just north and south, but I was pleased with our physicality."

McConnell, who finished with 74 rushing yards, scored his two touchdowns in the second quarter to give Eagle a 15-6 halftime lead. Lukehart finished with 104 yards on eight carries and scored both of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

"The offensive line just killed it," McConnell said. "It starts with the boys up front. We don't get anywhere without them. After that first touchdown, we just carried that momentum."

Boise running back Matt Wiedemer finished with a team-high 56 rushing yards, Laurino completed 13-of-26 passes for 123 yards and Coman caught six passes for 66 yards.

Despite the loss, Boise is tied for second with Borah in the Division 1 standings behind Eagle with two regular-season games remaining. The top four teams advance to the division playoffs in three weeks.

"I really admire where Bobby Clark has that team at right now," Peterson said. "I feel really good for Boise's program. That's a good team we beat."
