The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is offering a waterfowl hunt for first-time hunters in November at the Hagerman Wildlife Management Area.

This hunt is open to all 2009 hunter education graduates who are 10 years or older. Prospective hunters need to apply by Oct. 1.

The 22 hunters chosen by random drawing will be mentored by seasoned hunters who will provide retriever dogs, calls and decoys.

To apply, call (208) 324-4359 and give your name, address, phone number and hunter education number.

The Jerome office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday

If you're interested in getting out sooner, there are several bird species open and others will open soon.

® Birds currently open for hunting include forest grouse (dusky, ruffed and spruce) and doves.

® Quail, chukar and Hungarian partridge seasons open Sept. 19.

® Youth waterfowl season is Sept. 26-27. Youth 15 and younger can hunt if accompanied by an adult.

® Youth pheasant season is Oct. 3 to Oct. 9.
